John Legend "There With You"

And some previously unreleased music from John Legend. Always good to get some new JL, and this is no exception.

Big Sean feat. Mr. Hudson "Way Out"

This is apparently the first single off of Big Sean's upcoming album Finally Famous. He's consistently put out great mixtapes, and I'm expecting big things from him in '10. That being siad, this song is pretty nice, with Sean's flow working nicely with the song, and Mr. Hudson doing what he does best on the chorus.

Update: I've been reading that this isn't the official version off the album. Who knows what is true, but it's still pretty decent quality. We'll just have to see what happens.

B.o.B."Trunk Band feat. T-Pain"

Also some "new" stuff from B.o.B. I guess this was recorded a while ago, and is just now seeing the light of day. Don't know how I feel about this one, but I'm going to give it some time.

"The ticket's are now diamonds"

This has nothing to do with music, but this commercial is sheer brilliance. Whoever the ad-exec for Old Spice is should be getting paid a lot.

Kid Cudi "Know Why"

Some new Kid Cudi on this rainy/snowy Saturday. Really like the beat on this one. Saw it at 2DB.

XV-30 Minute Layover (Mixtape)

Finally. Been waiting on this tape all day. WELL worth it. Don't sleep on XV.

Thursday, February 25, 2010

XV "Warmup Freestyle"

Last leak off of XV's mixtape 30 Minute Layover, which drops tomorrow. Vizzy Zone dropping March 23rd.

XV- "Warmup Freestyle"

The Hood Internet "Giving Up the Sunshowers (M.I.A. vs Vampire Weekend)"

Another brilliant mash-up from the guys at the Hood Internet. M.I.A.'s voice melds perfectly with the beat from "Giving Up the Gun." Check out more of their stuff HERE.

jj "Let Go (Video)"

The visual for jj's "Let Go" off their upcoming release jj no. 3, which is out March 9th. Really excited to see what they have in store for us.

Chiddy Bang "Stylo (Gorillaz Remix)"

Little late on this one, but here it is anyways. Chiddy takes the Gorillaz lead single off their upcoming album Plastic Beach due out March 9th, and puts their stamp on it. Chiddy has been tearing up the UK as of late, with "Kids (Opposite of Adults)" currently at #8 on the iTunes Uk chart, as well as doing a bunch of performances. Why couldn't I still be in the UK?

XV "Lift the Game"

As you know, XV is one of our favorite rappers here at YotG. So you can imagine how pumped I was when I saw that he released a new song today, off of his upcoming mixtape 30 Minute Layover, dropping this Friday. Here he is going over Wayne and Em's "Drop the World" beat. As expected, the Kid with the Green Backpack doesn't disappoint.

Caribou "Odessa (Video)"

Caribou has been getting a lot of love from the blogosphere lately, and I finally got around to giving this video a view. Well worth it. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the song will be stuck in your head for hours. Reminds me of Royksopp, mixed with a little bit disco, a little bit electro, and a little bit alternative. Here's the song for anyone who wants it after watching the video:

Broken Social Scene - World Sick

Broken Social Scene's new album won't be out until May 4th, but they have put up a new track on their site called "World Sick." The track surely has a different sound than previous works (like You Forgot It In People) but it doesn't change the fact that I'm pretty excited for this album. Saw this at PMA

Crooked I "Backfire (Freestyle)"

Crooked I continues this trend of rapping over non-rap instrumentals. Here he is going over MuteMath. Again, seems awkward, but Crooked proves us wrong again.

Young Jeezy "Trap or Die 2 (Reloaded)"

Some new Jeezy to hold you over until T0D2 comes out. If it ever does.

Vampire Weekend "Giving Up the Gun (Video)"

As promised, here is the visual for (what I think) is the best track off of VW's latest release Contra. The visuals are crisp, and the video is full of cameos. Like I said before, they can do no wrong.

Passion Pit "Little Secrets (Video)"

So my favorite song of the year, from my favorite album of the year gets the music video treatment. Pretty good video from the boys at PP. This song may honestly never get old.

Vampire Weekend "Giving Up the Gun (Video)"

"Giving Up the Gun" was probably my favorite song off of Contra, and that's saying a lot. This is a screen shot from the video for it, which premieres tomorrow on Spinner. Lil Jon, RZA, Joe Jonas, and Jake Gyllenhaal all playing tennis. See you tomorrow.

The-Dream- "Love King"

The first single off of The-Dream's upcoming album of the same name. Gotta love new Dream. He NEVER disappoints, and this is no exception. If this is any indication of what Love King will be like, it might be better than Love vs. Money, which I didn't think was possible. Really good stuff. Spotted at P&P.

This Just In...That Kid C-G

Hey everyone, Andrew and I were recently informed of some news on an up and coming rapper that most of you probably have heard nothing about. This guys name is That Kid C-G. Let me tell you that we were both nothing less than amazed when we heard the tracks that we heard. That Kid C-G has a flow like Wiz Khalifa with the production of Chiddy Bang and beats that are just off the wall insane and different. The beats range in sound from Chromeo like to indie. We don't have much more information than what we have right now. You can follow him on Twitter.

Unlike sites such as 2DB, P&P, and PfoP, we don't get a ton of emails from artists asking us to listen to their music. But today we received one asking us to take a listen to a rapper named That Kid C-G. And I am very glad I gave him a chance. Mike pretty much covered what you need to know about him and his music. He hails from NYC and possesses an incredible range of styles. Really, really impressed with this kid. Sure to be plenty of good stuff from him in the future. Here are a couple of highlights:

J. Cole "Knock On Wood"

WOW. J Cole goes in over Common's "Be," and absolutely bodies it. Yea, that's right. Bodies it. Download this immediately.

Shawn Chrystopher "Like A Kid Again"

Don't really know much about Shawn Crystopher, but saw this single release at 2DB and decided to give it a listen. First off, I absolutely love the beat. A ridiculously catchy piano bounces through the track, and the chorus is amazingly catchy as well. Overall, Chrystopher impresses, and his upcoming EP The Audition drops March 23rd. After hearing this song, I will definetely be checking it out.

Carmine-Yours Truly

So Carmine dropped another mixtape about a month ago and I keep forgetting to write about it. His newest mixtape is called Yours Truly and again it is amazing. I don't think the beats go as hard and they seem a bit mellower however, his lyrics and flow have yet to let me down. It seems like his lyrics just flow so well with every one of his songs. You can download his mixtape from his Myspace.

Wiz Khalifa- "Cabin Fever"

Title track off of Wiz's upcoming mixtape. Really like this one, Wiz's flow is great as usual, and the beat is real nice. Kinda gives me an Exorcist/horror movie kind of vibe, which I guess makes sense considering the song's name. Taylor gang. Shout out to PfoP.

Crooked I- "Fireflies (Freestyle)"

Saw this at 2DB, and just laughed. We got Crooked I, one of the best lyricists in the game today, going over Owl City's "Fireflies," which has some of the most non-sensical, pointless lyrics that I've heard in a while. But of course, Crook makes it work.

David Guetta feat. Kid Cudi- "Memories (Video)"

This song took me a couple listens to get into, but I think Cudi's spacey voice fits in real well with Guetta's more electronic sound. And here's the song if anyone wants it:

Chiddy Bang- "Opposite of Adults (Kids) (Video)"

Here's the visual for Chiddy Bang's song "Opposite of Adults (Kids)." As you know, I'm very high on everything Chiddy does, and I wish I was still in London this past week for their show, cause I'm sure it was amazing. Their forthcoming EP "Opposite of Adults," is scheduled to drop Feb 22nd, and I for one could not be anymore pumped.

The Very Best- "Ambling Alp (Yeasayer Cover)"

The Very Best take probably my favorite song off of Yeasayer's most recent release Odd Blood. Honestly, I could listen to lead singer Esau Mwamwaya sing about quantum physics and still find the experience enjoyable. Therefore it makes sense that the melding of Yeasayer's already excellent beat, with Mwamwaya's singing, would make an awesome combination.

Dan Black feat. Kid Cudi- "Symphonies (Remix) Video"

Really awesome video/song from Dan Black and Cudder. I really really like the video, and its film references, especially the Catch Me If You Can part. Great stuff.

Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back

Peter Gabriel's cover album 'Scratch My Back' has slowly been making its way into view, especially with the cover of Bon Iver's "Flume." I read today on ateaseweb.com that The Guardian has the full album up for streaming. Enjoy!

Info-thanks to ateaseweb.com and petergabriel.com

Jay-Z, Rihanna, and E.S. Posthumous- "Run This Town (Super Bowl Intro)"

In my opinion the mixture of classical music and rap can be one of the most energetic and inspiring combos in music, if done right. This is no exception. E.S. Posthumous joins Jigga and Rihanna for this piano and string induced version of "Run This Town," to introduce the Super Bowl. Hopefully a CDQ audio track comes out soon.

Passion Pit- "Sleepyhead (Video)"

Mesita - "Living/Breathing" (Single)

You may remember the name Mesita from my Top 10 list of 2009, and I was wondering to myself the other day when I'd see new material from him. It just so happens "Living/Breathing" is a new single that was just released on the 1st of this month, and didn't surprise me when the catchyness drew me in on the first listen. Here's a video for the song:

I highly recommend you check out his other stuff too:

Lloyd Banks feat. Juelz Santana- "Beamer, Benz or Bentley"

You know I love anything with Juelz. In this day and age, I think it's important that we ask the important questions. Beamer, Benz or Bentley? Saw it at 2DBZ.

Artist/Song/Album of the Week

Hey guys, Since I missed last week I'm making up for it this week with another Artist/Song/Album of the week. This week is a song from Danger. He is a DJ from France that makes some ill electronic music. It's got a totally different feel from the usual electronic such as MSTRKRFT or Daft Punk. He just released a song from his newest EP which came out just a few weeks ago. Check out the song 4h30. I feel as if it has somewhat of a Halloween esque feel it. Also check out the video/trailer that he out up for his newest EP.

Kid Cudi "Symphonies (Remix) & High's N' Lows"

The musical monsoon continues. Here's some new and (semi) new stuff from Cudder. First up, Cudder hops on the remix of Dan Black's single "Symphony." Cudi absolutely kills it, and his flow and sound work perfectly with the original. Next up is a newly liberated song, "High's N' Lows," produced by Dot Da Genius, which apparently has been buried in the vaults up until now. Both really good.

Radiohead Live, etc.

Mike and Andrew can verify that I've always been a huge Radiohead fan, so here's a little bit about what they've been doing recently. I was reading around ateaseweb, and it seems the band has been doing some recording in LA for a few weeks, raising speculation of new material. (Thanks to all the posters there for the info.) As exciting as it is, I think it would be wrong to expect any releases soon, but it's good to see they're working on new stuff. In case you want to dig the hype hole, you can read up on the rumors at onethirtyBPM. After what happened in Haiti, they also put on a benefit concert in LA. OnethirtyBPM has a live recording of the show in which you can hear Yorke state that they raised $572,754 for the event. Wow.

Tons of Good Stuff

It seems as though the musical famine has past, at least for now. Here is a random assortment of new songs that hopefully fulfill some of your musical want.

"Bedrock"minus the clowns from Young Money, with Drake's and Wanye's verses intact. Add more Lloyd, and you get this:

Track off of jj's upcoming release. A cover of The Game and Wayne song "My Life" with a little ATC mixed in at the end.

Owl City+ Yung Joc= Awesome. The White Panda does it again.

And if you have not downloaded the Peter Gabriel cover below, do so immediately.

Peter Gabriel "Flume (Bon Iver Cover)"

Wow. Absolutely beautiful. Just as haunting as the original, and Gabriel's voice works perfectly with the song, as does the added orchestra. Highly, highly recommended. Saw it at P&P.

Broken Social Scene - New Album May 4

So I was reading around teh interwebz and found a link to an interview on Pitchfork with Kevin Drew, in which he talks about the upcoming tour and album for the band. I've been listening to BSS for a while, and 'You Forgot It In People' has been one of those rare albums for me. The kind you always go back to and never get tired of. There is great potential in anything this band does, and I'm definetely looking forward to this release. Here's a link to a full live show recorded by NPR, I highly recommend letting this thing download it and giving it a listen:

Broken Social Scene - Live at the 9:30 Club [11/18/07]

Artist/Song/Album of the Week

Hey guys, I missed updating last week so this week I will do 2. First is an artist known as Whole-Z. He is a DJ that is similar to Girl Talk or Super Mash Bros. I found out about him from one of my friends and I got the mixtape that he put out from the Hathbanger website. I suggest everyone give it a listen.

B.o.B. "May 25th (Mixtape)"

Finally. Been waiting for this for a while. B.o.B. never disappoints, and with guests that include J. Cole and Charles Hamilton, and production by Kanye, Alchemist, and B.o.B. himself, this mixtape might already be in the running for tape of the year. Enjoy.
